Family Friendly Events to Celebrate Colorado’s 150th Birthday

This August 1st is not just any Colorado Day celebration, it also is the 150th birthday of the amazing state we call home! To celebrate the special occasion, there are some exciting family friendly activities around the Denver Metro area. From festivals, to drone shows, to train rides, there are plenty of fun ways to celebrate the Centennial State.

Colorado Day at Union Station

Union Station downtown presents Spirit of the Centennial State, a free full day event celebrating the best parts of Colorado. This event runs from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on August 1, and there will music performances, delicious eats, and other fun activities to celebrate our state. Be sure to check out the splash pad at Union Station as well to cool off from the heat!

Colorado Day Community Fest

Over in the Golden Triangle Creative District is another fun festival for the whole family. The History Colorado Center is hosting the free event on August 1 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Along with the event being free, admission to the History Colorado Center, Center for Colorado Women’s History, and the Denver Art Museum will also be free that day! The fest includes a free pancake breakfast (perfect for the kiddos), local vendors, games, activities, and live musical and cultural performances.

Colorado 150 Celebration at McGregor Square

Another fun and free family friendly event in downtown Denver takes place at McGregor Square! This all day event on August 1st features lots of live music, plus face painting and a balloon artist that will be a hit with the kids. Additionally, the first 300 visitors will receive a free Colorado 150 t-shirt.

Castle Rock Colorado Day Festival

Head on down to Castle Rock August 1st from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for the ultimate family friendly Colorado day fest! From face painting, to a bubble party, root beer float station, silent disco, and so much more, there is plenty to for all kids to enjoy. Plus, at 10:30 kids and families can join in on the Colorado Day Fun Run, with the options to run one mile or a 5k!

Highlands Ranch Colorado 150 Celebration

Another fun Colorado day fest on the south side of town is happening in Highlands Ranch from 1-9 p.m on August 1. The heart of the festival will be live performances spanning multiple music genres that represent the history of our state. There will also be craft vendors and tasty bites, making for a great, laidback celebration of our state.

250-150 Drone Shows: Stories in the Sky at Coors Field Rockies Game

Grab your tickets and head on over to Coors Field on August 1st for a Rockies game, then stick around after for an exciting drone show celebrating our incredible state! Children of all ages will be wowed by the incredible display of lights displaying the history, landscapes, and communities that make up Colorado. This event will delight sports fans and technology lovers alike.

Colorado 150 Day at the Colorado Railroad Museum

Just about every kid goes through a train phase of some sort, and the railroad museum over in Golden is the perfect spot to both satisfy their love of locomotives and to celebrate the influence of the rail road on our state. On August 1 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. the museum will be having steam train rides along with programming around the artist William Henry Jackson and his paintings and pictures of our gorgeous state.

Mile High 150 Expo

If your child is more of a plane lover, then the Mile High 150 Expo will be the perfect Colorado Day event for them. This exciting airshow takes place on August 1 from 4-10 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield. There will be exciting aerial displays, a 300-drone light show, and live music, making for a fun filled day for all future pilots.
