Voting is one of the most important things you do as a U.S. citizen, but it can be overwhelming to navigate for the first time. Preparing to Vote in Colorado
Check Your Registration
- To register to vote in Colorado, you must have been a resident of Colorado for the 22 days before the election.
- You can register by mail or online eight days before the election. You can register in-person on election day or during early voting.

- Vote 411 is a nonpartisan website run by the League of Women Voters.
Make Sure You Have the Right ID
Acceptable forms of ID per the Colorado Secretary of State website:
- Driver’s license or ID card issued by Colorado Department of Revenue
- U.S. Passport
- U.S. Military ID
- Valid pilot’s license
- ID card issued by a Native American tribe
- Employee badge or ID issued by a government office
- Certified birth certificate
- Certified document of naturalization
- Student ID card from an accredited postsecondary education institution
Ways to Vote in Colorado
Vote by Mail
- Every voter receives a mail ballot. The ballot will be sent to the mailing address you provided for your voter registration file. To check the address on file, or to make any changes to your voter registration visit www.GoVoteColorado.gov.
- You can mail in your ballot or better yet, return your ballot at one of the designated drop boxes, at advance voting locations, or a polling location on election day.

Advance In Person Voting
Early voting is available and no excuse is required. Early voting is available during regular business hours for 15 days before a General Election. Check your county’s website for locations.
Voting In Person on Election Day- November 5
- Make sure to confirm your polling place.
- If you are in line when the polls close, stay in line! You will get to vote.
