The Denver Nuggets clinched their first-ever NBA Championship, and it’s time to celebrate! The City of Denver is planning the Nuggets Championship Parade for Thursday, June 15.
Taking your kids to any event requires planning but a celebration with the potential for a million attendees (like the Broncos Super Bowl parade), takes another level of planning. Read on for our tips for a fun and safe celebration.
Event Details
Get downtown early for the pre-rally at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 15 at Civic Center Park. There will be live music, championship highlights and a live stream of the parade. Expected features include an appearance by Nuggets players and coaches, civic leaders, SuperMascot Rocky, Denver Nuggets dancers, Skyline Drumline, Mile High City Hype Squad, Average Joes, Sizzling’ Seniors and the Ball Team Aluminum. If you don’t want to scope out a spot on the parade route, this is a great option to still watch from a distance and then save your spot for the post-parade rally.
The Rally following the parade will take place at the City and County Building at Civic Center Park. Video screens will be positioned on Bannock St. and in the park, showing live shots from the parade and entertainment on the stage.
During the Parade
The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Union Station. The route travels 17th to Broadway and ends up at Civic Center Park for the rally. Check out a map here.
Mom Tips for the Nuggets Championship Parade
- Set realistic expectations. You’re there to make memories. You might not be able to see everything, but you’re creating core memories for you and your littlest Nuggets fans.
- Bring blankets to stand on. The sidewalk is hard to stand on while you wait. And wait. Chairs are not permitted.
- Bring more snacks than you think you need. You don’t want to lose your hard-earned spot for a trip to get more snacks. Don’t pack light – bring more food and water than you anticipated needing.
- Make your exit plan. If cell service is limited, you might not be able to make a plan if you get separated from your group. Make a plan before you head downtown and stick to it.
- Enjoy the moment. You got this. You’re earning cool mom status, for sure!
Safety Tips
- Write the name and phone number of an adult who is NOT at the parade on your kids’ arms. If you get separated and your cell phone isn’t working in the crowds, this will ensure someone safe can be contacted.
- Take a picture of your group when you arrive so that if you get separated, you can remember what they were wearing.
Avoid Road Closures
Roads will be closed beginning Wednesday at 6 a.m. with Bannock Street from Colfax to 14th Avenue. The following roads will be closed on Thursday:
- 14th Ave between Delaware Street and Broadway, 6 a.m. to midnight
- Bannock Street from 13th Avenue to Colfax Avenue, 6 a.m. to midnight
- Cherokee Street from Colfax to 13th Avenue, 6 a.m.– 5 p.m
- 17th Street from Wynkoop to Broadway, 8:45 a.m. – noon
- Broadway from 17th Ave to 13th Ave, 8:45 a.m. – noon
