FREE Tour at Hammond’s Candy Factory

0

Find out how candy canes, lollipops, and even marshmallows are made at Hammond’s Candy Factory in Denver. These free, 30-minute tours are very kid friendly and end with a sweet treat.

The Tour

The tour starts with a video that explains how Hammond’s started with one family in the 1920s and follows the story of it now being sold worldwide. The video is sprinkled with light-hearted trivia questions that kept my kids engaged.

We then walked to the factory floor with large windows overlooking the candy production. We first watched candy canes being hand pulled and twisted. The tour guide explains the candy being made (the candy canes we saw in June were being made for Trader Joe’s Christmas collections!), how the workers follow their candy through each step of the process and the packaging process. Video screens also show harder to see areas — our tour group saw marshmallow’s being poured onto pans.

At the end of the tour, each participant receives a piece of candy – usually leftovers or broken items from production. You exit via the retail shop where you can buy all kinds of Hammond’s candy products. Our favorites were the chocolate bars and different flavors of marshmallows!

Location and Parking

The tour is located at the factory at 5735 Washington Street, Denver, CO 80216. Free parking is available right outside the tour doors.

Mom Tips

  • Strollers are welcome. The tour areas are large and we had no trouble navigating with a stroller.
  • In the retail shop, check out the “Oops” section where sweet treats are heavily discounted because of imperfections. We got a large bag of flavored marshmallows for $3.
