Denver Museum Nature and Science

A great option for all ages, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science has been a destination for families for more than 100 years. You can explore space, gems and minerals, dinosaurs, the environment and more. Don’t miss seeing an IMAX or planetarium show. Grab lunch at the deli or T-Rex Cafe. 

Mom Tip: For the littlest explorers, check out the Discovery Zone (ages 3-8) for special hands-on exhibits. 

Denver Art Museum

One of the best things about the Denver Art Museum is it is free to kids 18 and under, providing accessibility to art. The museum is focused on exploring art through large collections as well as hands-on activities. Don’t miss the Day at the DAM programming offering full-day experiences each month for kids to explore and create art.

Denver Mint

At the Denver Mint, you’ll learn the history and role of the United States Mint and how they produce billions of coins each year. This free tour is a popular, first come first serve basis. No advance reservations are allowed as of January 2023. Don’t miss the gift shop for unique souvenirs.

Mom Tip: Tours are for ages 7 and up only so plan this as an outing with the bigger kids.

History Colorado Center

Learn about Colorado cultures of the past, present and future with interactive exhibits spanning four floors. Some highlights include Colorado’s Asian Food Culture, the Sand Creek Massacre and Return of the Corn Mothers. Don’t miss the Makerspace for hands-on experiences.

Forney Museum of Transportation

The Forney Museum is great for any car loving kid. But not only will you see cars but buggies, motorcycles, steam locomotives, airplanes, public transportation, sleighs, bicycles, toys and more! Don’t miss Amelia Earhart’s 1923 Gold Bug.

Wings Over the Rockies – Air and Space Museum 

For airplaine lovers, there is no other place to go than Wings Over the Rockies. With over 50 aircraft and realistic flight simulators, it’s a must see. There are two locations – Air and Space in Denver and the Exploration of Flight in Centennial. Check out the Mars Exploration area for kids. You can explore the museum in 1-1.5 hours.

Firefighters Museum

Learn about the history of firefighting and the Denver Fire Department! The museum is housed in a 1909 firehouse known as Station One.

Mom Tip: The museum hosts a tot story time the second Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. featuring a story and craft.

Colorado Railroad Museum

This is a must-see for all Colorado kids! The Colorado Railroad Museum features model trains, a model 1880-era railroad depot, railroad stories, hands-on activities and videos. The museum offers train rides year most Saturdays with an expanded schedule in summers. Be sure to explore their Storybook Tours, Polar Express and Day out With Thomas events.

Mom Tip: Check out a Railroad Backpack, included in your admission, which includes kid friendly activities focused on exhibits that would normally be just for adults.

Children’s Museum of Denver
