Apple picking in the Denver area typically starts in mid-August and runs through mid-October, depending on weather conditions. We suggest you call the orchard before leaving to check on their availability and hours of operation.

Adams Apple Orchard (Ault)

Adams Apple Orchard will open its U-pick season on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, and will be open for picking on weekends when available. No reservations required. The early May freeze impacted their crop so be sure to check Facebook for availability before heading out.

Happy Apple Farm (Penrose)

Happy Apple Farm will open August 17-18 from 9 a.m – 4:30 p.m. and hours will proceed from there – Friday-Sunday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. through October 27. For Fall Family outings, You-Pick-Pumpkins starting mid-September with free hayrides to the pumpkin patch! After that hayride enjoy some fresh pressed Apple Cider and WEEKENDS ONLY enjoy B.B.Q. Brisket and Pulled Pork sandwich’s, Roasted Chili’s, and a variety of fresh baked goods!

Big B’s Fruit Orchard (Hotchkiss)

Big B’s crafts the highest quality juices and hard ciders inspired by the delicious fruit, the changing seasons, and the vibrant people of their growing community – families, farmers, friends, workers, and everyone who enjoys and shares their products.  They welcome visitors to the orchard to listen to some great music, have a meal at the orchard café, pick some fruit right from the trees, or spend the night in the campground. Check online for picking availability. 

Nelms Farm (Golden)

Nelms Farm was founded in 2012 as a way for our family to share the pesticide and chemical-free apples in the orchard. Ppen to the public for just one day, Sunday September 1, 2024 of Labor Day weekend.  Please note that reservations are required for all visitors to the farm.
Important note from Nelms Farm: This year we had a late frost in May and lost about half our apples but there are still many close to the ground for kids to pick right off the trees. We also have a large inventory of Yukon Gold and Viking Red potatoes for the kids to find and harvest. As we’ve had for the last several years, we’ll have local honey and 10 different kinds of jams and jellies for sale. 

Orchard Valley Farms (Paonia)

Fresh and sustainably grown fruit and produce, plus local to global artisan crafted foods and gifts are available in our Paonia, Colorado farm market and online store. Check their Facebook page for picking opportunities.

Ya Ya Farm and Orchard (Longmont)

Ya Ya Farm and Orchard is a U-Pick-It orchard in Boulder County. In addition to apple picking, they offer family fall activities including farm animals. Enjoy all things apple in the farm stand – apples, apple cider donuts, apple pies and oh so much more! We do not charge an admission fee.  U-Pick requires prior reservations and is sold out generally by August. Pro Tip: The quietest times here for a visit are weekdays in the afternoon times.

Tips for Apple Picking in Denver

  • Dress in layers, as the weather can change quickly in the mountains.
  • Wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in.
  • Bring a hat and sunscreen, even if it’s a cloudy day.
  • Bring a basket or bag to carry your apples.
  • Be prepared to get dirty!
  • Have fun! Apple picking is a great way to enjoy the fall weather and get some exercise.
